Old liquors possess more value than simply exquisite taste

We've all heard the stories of a well-aged bottle of liquor saved for special occasions and prized for the taste and rarity. It's something Hollywood learned years ago, incorporating the fine aged liquors in some memorable scenes involving James Bond, among others. However, there is far more to the value of vintage liquors than just the taste; and one Netherlands-based firm is demonstrating that through the appraisal of old liquors.

In addition to appraising old liquors, Bay van der Bunt, owner of Old Liquors, has an extensive collection of more than 5,000 bottles of vintage cognac, armagnac, port and liquors. The collection was started by Bay's grandfather in 1895.

Furniture Detective: Invalid and barber chairs share history

There's a lot to learn from antique and vintage chairs, and in the latest installment of his Furniture Detective column, Fred Taylor reveals some truths about invalid and barber chairs.

In responding to a reader's inquiry about a recently acquired chair, pictured at left, Taylor points to the characteristics of 19th century invalid and barber chairs. He goes on to explain that while they share many traits, it is through these traits the identity of the chair can be determined.
